INCUBATION: |
10 to 21 days |

CONTAGIOUS: |
From a few days before the onset of the symptoms until all the "pox" have crusted over. |

RASH: |
Appears first on the chest, abdomen, back; then spreads to the face, neck and extremities. It lasts from a few days to two weeks. The pox appear in groups and each progresses through four stages in 24 to 48 hours, consequently, all the stages are present at once. |

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: |
Fever, headache, general discomfort, and rather severe itching. |

CARE: |
Not necessary to keep patient in bed
1. A NON-ASPIRIN product for fever and discomfort.
2. Calamine lotion or baking soda baths for itching.
3. Keep child's hands clean and fingernails short. This will help prevent infection of the lesions if the child should scratch them open. |
