School Boards are required by Section 120.12(13) of the state statutes to notify the parents/guardians of students enrolled in the school district of the student academic standards that will be in effect for the school year. This notification must be made prior to the beginning of the school term. This notice may be provided on the school district’s website.
Columbus School District has adopted the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, as adapted to Wisconsin Academic Standards by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Next Generation Science Standards have been adopted for Science. The District has adopted the Wisconsin Academic Standards for all other content areas: this includes the Wisconsin Academic Standards for Social Studies which include geography and history. The District has adopted the Common Core Essential Elements, as adapted to Wisconsin by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for educating students with significant intellectual disabilities for whom IEP teams determine other standards are not appropriate. These standards will be recognized during the 2021-2022 school year.
