  • Dear Columbus Families,

    This letter contains many (but not all) details on the expectations for the coming weeks regarding the school closure ordered by Governor Evers. Please take time to read the entire message as we have information regarding meals, medications, devices, and the educational process for our students and families for the future weeks.

    We have determined the following schedule for the next few weeks; however, given the rapidly changing events, thesedates may change. Please continue to watch for further information.

    March 17th, 12 pm to 7 pm - Computers/Devices and instructional materials for Grades K – 5 pick up
    March 18th, 7:30 am to 4 pm - Computers/Devices and instructional materials for Grades K – 5 pick up

    Computers/Devices and instructional materials for Grades K - 5 can be picked up at the Elementary School. We will have two drive up/pick up locations – one at the parking lot entry and one at the old main entrance. Staff will be available for drive-up service. Parents must be available to pick up and sign the District’s computer usage agreement.

    March 17th 12 pm to 7 pm - Medication and personal items can be picked up at your child’s school’s main office
    March 18th 7:30 am to 4 pm - Medication and personal items can be picked up at your child’s school’s main office

    March 16th – 27th - Spring Break for Students
    March 30th - Continuity of Learning Plan Begins
    April 6 - Tentative re-opening (subject to change)


    During these times of uncertainty and the rapidly developing changes, we will have a limited number of staff in our buildings. We will continue to provide you updates on COVID-19 and District developments on the Health Resources tab on the District webpage.

    Food Services

    The District will be providing food services during the school closure. For the week of March 16th through the 20th, free grab and go breakfast and lunches may be picked up at the CIS/CMS main entrance between 6:45 and 9:00 am every day. Two free nutritious meals will be provided in one sack for every student who needs one. Any child 18 or under is eligible for the meals.

    During Spring Break, the Blessings in a Backpack program will be providing a free sack full of lunches for the week for any student who would like to participate. Look for a participation form to come through the District email or Infinite Campus mailings soon. Distribution date and time will be announced by the end of the week.

    After Spring Break, the District will begin food services and breakfast and lunch distribution through a number of sites around the District as well as through a partnership with our bus company Lamers. We will transport the free grab and go lunches via our regular morning bus routes to all families who would like to participate. Please look for a participation form to come through District email soon. This service will begin on March 30th.

    Enhanced Cleaning

    During this closure our building maintenance and custodial staff will be taking additional precautions to keep our schools clean and disinfected. We will continue this process throughout the closure and with guidance from state and local health authorities in addition to the ISSA standards our staff normally follow.

    IT Support for Virtual Learning

    All students in Columbus have a district-assigned device. Students in K-5 have a combination of IPads and Chromebooks and students in grades 6-12 have Chromebooks. As support during the Continuity of Learning Plan (Virtual Learning for students), parents, students and staff can get tech support on district owned devices or tools by e-mailing or calling 920-623-5950 x2222. Please leave a detailed message if you get voice mail.
    If you need access to the internet, the District will supply hot spots free of charge. Please contact Chet Bembenek at 920-623-5950.

    Continuity for Learning Plan

    Teachers will be receiving additional professional development and completing lesson plans the remainder of this week to ensure the educational services for our students remain consistent throughout this school closure. Please look to receive more information from your student’s principal and teachers for instruction to begin March 30th.

    We thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work through the provision of services during this closure. Staff are working hard to ensure we meet the needs of all our students, while continuing the educational process during this unprecedented and trying time.
