Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment

Welcome to the Curriculum and Instruction Department!

Columbus School District is committed to the continuous improvement of its curriculum and instruction program to ensure that all students learn at grade level or higher. The role of Curriculum and Instruction is to coordinate and lead implementation and evaluation of the curricular programs in the district. Our staff reviews and revises curriculum through a multi-phased curriculum review cycle. We have Teacher Leaders from every building who work collaboratively to set improvement goals and lead professional learning teams at every grade level and content area to work towards those goals. This department also provides professional learning for our staff to support continuous improvement of instructional strategies and learning for our students. 

The vision of the Curriculum & Instruction department works toward is to guarantee equitable access to a comprehensive learning experience that will empower students to be active participants of the greater global community.

To achieve this, the department strives to meet these expectations:

  • Practices are rooted in educational equity. This means that every student has access to the resources and educational rigor they need at the right moment in their education, across race, gender, ethnicity, language, disability, sexual orientation, family background, and/or family income.

  • Students see themselves reflected in the curriculum.

  • Students engage in self-reflection and self-advocacy.

  • Students are individuals whose voices matter.

  • Students are guaranteed a standards based curriculum that is provided through a coherent scope and sequence.

  • Educators empower students through student-centered approaches (inquiry-based instruction, research-based practices, and data-driven decisions).

  • Educators will be supported through continued opportunities for professional learning.
