Student Assessments

The following notification complies with Wis. Stat. 118.30(1m)(d), "If the school board maintains an Internet site for the school district, annually publish information on that Internet site about the examinations administered under this subsection to pupils in the school district."

The District will conduct the following state assessments during the 2021-22 school year:

  • PALS for students in 4K only
  • The Wisconsin Forward Exam at grades 3-8 in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, at grades 4 and 8 in Science, and 4, 8, and 10 in Social Studies
  • Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) at grades 3-11 in ELA and Mathematics, at grades 4 and 8 - 11 in Science, and at grades 4, 8, and 10 in Social Studies
  • ACT Aspire at grades 9 & 10
  • The ACT Plus Writing at grade 11 for Reading, English, Mathematics, Science, and Writing

Wisconsin Student Assessment System

The Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS) is a comprehensive statewide program designed to provide information about what students know in core academic areas and  can apply what they know. The WSAS includes:

  • The Wisconsin Forward Exam at grades 3-8 in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, at grades 4 and 8 in Science, and 4, 8, and 10 in Social Studies 
  • Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) at grades 3-11 in ELA and Mathematics, at grades 4 and 8 - 11 in Science, and at grades 4, 8, and 10 in Social Studies,
  • ACT Aspire at grades 9 & 10
  • The ACT Plus Writing at grade 11 for Reading, English, Mathematics, Science, and Writing.

The federal No Child Left Behind Act requires all states to test all students in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics in grades 3-8 and once in high school. Student performance on these assessments is reported in proficiency categories and used for accountability determination at the school, district and state levels. Wisconsin State statute also requires students to take a science and social studies test  These tests together create the Wisconsin Student Assessment System.

Title I requirement for assessment in our district:

Title I is a federal program that provides funds to school districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children who are disadvantaged to support a variety of services. Its overall purpose is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and assessments. The grant contains provisions for ensuring that children who are disadvantaged enrolled in private schools also benefit from the academic enrichment services funded with Title I, Part A funds.

Program Elements

Critical program elements are:

  • needs assessment and program plan design,
  • parent involvement,
  • services to students enrolled in private schools,
  • high-quality teachers and paraprofessionals,
  • coordination of services for homeless students in non-Title I schools,
  • support for Title I Focus and Priority schools and
  • comparability.
