ACT 55-WI Civics Graduation Requirement
The Act 55- WI Civics Graduation Requirement requires all students graduating in 2017 or later to pass the INS Citizenship test in order to earn a high school diploma in the State of Wisconsin. Columbus will give the test online in a multiple choice format and students will have the opportunity to take it as many times as needed to score at least 60/100 on the exam. Columbus will give the exam to Juniors in April; Freshmen and Sophomores will take it in May.
School Boards are required by section 120.12(13) of the state statutes to notify the parents/guardians of students enrolled in the school district of the student academic standards that will be in effect for the school year. This notification must be made prior to the beginning of the school term. This notice may be provided on the school district's website.

Columbus School District has adopted the Wisconsin Academic Standards in English Language Arts, Literacy in all Subject Areas, and Mathematics which are the Common Core State Standards. Next Generation Science Standards have been adopted for Science. Wisconsin Academic Standards will be utilized in all other content areas. The District has adopted the Common Core Essential Elements for educating students with significant intellectual disabilities for whom IEP teams determine other standards are not appropriate. These standards will be recognized during the 2018-2019 school year.
